Colin alongside
King Charles
Berlin by anti-aircraft fire, the plane jolted violently upwards
and both engines failed. His navigator Doug Redmond said
what should we do, at the time Colin felt this was a silly
question, as they simply could do nothing apart from wait
and hope…as they glided through the air the two possible
possibilities were that the engines would kick in or they
would not, thankfully the former happened, and the
engines kicked in and Colin flew to safety.
Colin flew the Mosquito bomber and later trained pilots in
the UK and US.
In September 2024 Colin abseiled for charity. The Frank
Sinatra song “Young at Heart” which was released in 1954
features the lyrics “Fairytales can come true, it can happen
to you, if your young at heart” the song could have been
written especially for Colin.
Flight Lieutenant Colin Bell, Thank you for your
service, you are a true hero and now a dear
friend of Chattertons.

which in his words,
we just had to win.
